Philadelphia, PA –

Happy National Women in Sports Day!

It is my hope that, first and foremost, we all take today to celebrate female leaders throughout the sports industry. I am inspired by athletes like Venus Williams, Erin Jackson, Chloe Kim, Rose Lavelle, Michelle Tumolo, and dozens more. I am inspired by coaches like Katie Sowers, Lori Locust, Liza Kelly (my coach!), Dawn Staley, Becky Hammon…and dozens more. I am inspired by sports alumni, who are now icons, like Michelle Kwan, Billie Jean King, Abby Wambach, Jen Adams…and dozens more. I am inspired by industry leaders, like Kim Ng, Jessica Berman, Samantha Rapoport, Venus Williams (again), Angela Ruggiero…and dozens more.

Thank you to the powerful women, listed and unlisted, who have shaped the industry for which I am passionate. Their achievements and leadership provide a framework for success that I aspire to and that many future generations of women can look up to.

It is the future generations that I spend every hour, of every day, working for. When we started BASE, I became acutely aware that, despite all of the progress in our industry, many challenges still lie ahead of young women elbowing their way into the sports landscape. One of the challenges I am carefully watching is the risk to Title IX and equal opportunities in collegiate sports after the new NIL rules. The bloated “collectives,” created to provide financial incentives to NCAA athletes, are open about their intent to bolster football and male basketball programs. The regulations are not keeping up with the market, and the gap that already exists between male and female collegiate athletes will continue to widen.

I applaud the open-market NIL platforms, like Opendorse, which support equal NIL opportunities for both male and female athletes. Opendorse has said that six women’s sports are in the top 10 for NIL compensation. The Opendorse model allows for equal opportunity and manageable oversight.

You may have heard the NIL market referred to as the “wild west.” The wild west was not favorable towards women then, and it doesn’t seem to be developing into a favorable landscape for women now.

On this National Girls and Women in Sports Day, I hope you take a moment to consider the opportunities and challenges that exist for young female athletes. BASE is dedicated to bringing greater investment into the amateur sports community. We represent hundreds of the best events for young female athletes. That includes: Volleyball NIT (650 teams, 4 days) | Colorado 4th of July Fastpitch (1,000 teams, 7 days) | Live Love Lax (500 teams, 2 days) | Run 4 Roses Basketball (1,000 teams, 4 days). We welcome the opportunity to work with all organizations and partners interested in supporting the next generation of female athletes.
