Philadelphia, PA – Announced in March, San Diego Sport Innovators (SDSI) granted BASE Sports Group’s acceptance into the SDSI Accelerator Class 19 cohort. BASE, along with three other companies, begin a 20-week accelerator program focused on developing tools for business growth and success in the sports and active lifestyle industry.

“I am thrilled to be working with BASE Sports Group,” said John Riley, SDSI mentor and retired SVP/CFO, North American Nutrition at PepsiCo. “BASE came to SDSI with a fantastic business opportunity, and I asked to join their mentor team because I have personally seen how strategic partnerships can propel youth sports. I know the value of this marketplace, and I am looking forward to working with BASE to become the leader in amateur sports partnerships.”

Since 2008, 108 companies have graduated from the SDSI Accelerator program and 74% are still active, have merged, or have been acquired. Graduate companies have amassed a total of $88 million in capital raised through funding rounds and have generated over 630 jobs with their businesses. Hookit, a graduate of SDSI, was recently acquired by KORE Software, according to a recent San Diego Business Journal report. The exit amount of the acquisition was significantly in excess of the $20 million raised by Hookit in venture capital.

“This is an exciting moment for BASE and our leadership team,” said Mark Dvoroznak, Co-Founder of BASE. “The SDSI Accelerator program offers BASE the opportunity to work with accomplished leaders from all facets of the sports industry. Through the SDSI program, BASE will focus on strategic developments and raising capital. The resources provided by SDSI will propel our growth and we are grateful for the opportunity to join such a prestigious program.”

SDSI is a nonprofit (and does not take equity), dedicated to supporting the most promising entrepreneurs in the sport and active lifestyle industries. Member companies that support SDSI include TaylorMade, Wells Fargo Capital Finance, Sony Electronics, Cushman Wakefield, Qualcomm, REEF, the San Diego Padres, and many others in the sports, health, and fitness markets.
